Hardware Engineer - Research and Development

Position's Duties:

Develop high-performance optoelectronics transport products for optical access and metro-optical networking applications. Requires skills in GBE; SONET/SDH; DWDM; CWDM product and system design; and knowledge of DWDM/CWDM optical networks, components, and interface circuitry. Requires in-depth knowledge of optoelectronic interface circuits in addition to solid understanding of DWDM and CWDM optical components (lasers, amplifiers, filters), particularly in the 2.5GHz and 10 GHz range. Requires design experience with detailed component circuitry (limiting amplifiers, PLLs, CDRs).

Responsible for all phases of hardware design including technical analysis of product requirements, recommendation of design alternatives, functional specifications, design of digital/analog/electro-optical circuits, and custom FPGAs, schematic design, PCB layout, hardware debug, hardware verification testing and release to manufacturing.

The candidate will have a proven track record of delivering complex board level products incorporating digital circuits, analog circuits, and high-current power circuits and have working knowledge of fault tolerant systems. Have experience in defining detailed board level circuit implementation and generate test plans to carry out comprehensive product validation. Drive designs from conceptual work, functional specification, design, prototype, H/W bring-up, verification and compliance testing. Support product through pre & post production release.

The ideal candidate must work well in a team environment, while maintaining personal design schedules.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics with 5 years of industry experience
  • Knowledge of CPLD / FPGAs design and programming methodologies required
  • Specific product knowledge of Xilinx FPGA design and programming
  • Background in Ethernet technologies including 1Gb and 10Gb
  • Background in Ethernet ring technologies including RPR and EAPS
  • Background in Ethernet aggregation technologies including 802.3ad
  • Design of high-speed parallel interfaces such as SFI4 and SFI 5, 622 Mb/s - 2.5 Gb/s, XAUI, high-speed serial interfaces to SFP/XFP and discrete electro-optic devices
  • PLL design, especially for SONET products, ability to meet SONET jitter and Ethernet based switching platforms
  • High-speed interfaces to 2.5 GHz and 10 GHz optics
  • Evaluate multiple types of optical technologies
  • Meet ITU and SONET standard for performance and reliability
  • Proven track record in designing high speed boards using telecommunication lasers, receivers, transceivers and optical transport technologies. Capable of schematic capture and RF circuitry layout.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of optical technologies, including SONET/SDH, CWDM, DWDM, Ethernet and Ethernet ring architectures, product architecture, and design.
  • Design of digital control interfaces such as I2C, microprocessor interfaces (8260)
  • Strong debugging tools, able to quickly come up to speed on new technologies
  • Strong experience with microprocessor & digital circuit design, implementation of high speed I/O and clock termination techniques required.
  • Knowledge of optical components and analog circuits is a strong plus.
  • Strong knowledge of high-speed bus design and signal integrity tools required.
  • Experience with implementation of on board power converters, dc-dc step-up, buck and linear regulators.
  • Knowledge of power sequencing, clock skew control / compensation.
  • Knowledge of pcb fabrication, fab & assembly design rules, product integration with mechanical components.
  • Ability to perform rework of fine-pitch components, expertise in use of logic analyzer, oscilloscope, voltage meters, and BER equipment required.
  • Knowledge of 802.x and Telecordia standards is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with Safety and EMC design practices.

Sr. Manufacturing Test Development Engineer

Job Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

As the outsourced manufacturing engineer the candidate will be responsible for all production assembly and test processes as well as the associated documentation, managing the RMA process to insure timely repair and return of product, continuous improvement of both the production and RMA processes, and will own the new product introduction (NPI) process. Ownership of the NPI process will include the development and verification of the necessary production assembly and test procedures, test software, test equipment development and/or acquisition, production tools, product calibration processes, as well as the process verification process required for production introduction in accordance with Sorrento Networks Product Life Cycle (PLC) process. The manufacturing engineer will also be responsible for managing the RMA process which will include the repair, failure analysis, and data recording and reporting. In addition to the above responsibilities, the manufacturing engineer will work with the Quality Engineer on quality initiatives that will drive continuous improvement in manufacturing.

Skills:

The candidate should have excellent interpersonal and analytical skills; very good oral and written communication skills; the ability to set priorities, clearly define and organize work elements for a timely and successful conclusion; the ability to define Design of Experiments in achieving root cause of problems; be well versed in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio applications; capable of multi-tasking; and have the ability to work in groups or independently.

Required Experience:

The candidate will have 7 to 10 years experience as a manufacturing engineer supporting the build and test of OC12, OC48, and Optical GbE based transport products with an emphasis on continuous improvement. In addition, the candidate must have at least 7 years experience in the development of automated production test equipment utilizing C, C++, Visual Basic, purl scripting, Java, and National Instruments Lab View. The candidate should have circuit level design experience coupled with test systems development utilizing commercial-off-the-shelf USB, GPIB, interface test instruments allowing for a computer controlled test station via a computer. The candidate should have developed automated test equipment utilizing National Instruments Test Stand as its test executive. The candidate should also have experience working as an outsourced manufacturing engineer in support of board level assembly and test as well as reverse functions such as RMA/MRB. Statistical process control experience will be considered beneficial.

Education Requirements:

The candidate should have a bachelor's in electrical, computer, or optical engineering or a technology degree combining any of the above areas. A green or black belt Six Sigma certification would be considered beneficial.

Travel:

The candidate should be willing to travel two weeks out of each quarter with some international travel required.


Production Inventory Control Planner

Job Description:

The position will consist of production planning and inventory management and control. The candidate will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of the production plan, the issuance of purchase orders arising out of the production plan, as well as the scheduling and issuance of manufacturing orders that drive the build and test of the product in manufacturing. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for inventory management which will include the acquisition of inventory to support the production plan, the allocation of the inventory to manufacturing orders, weekly cycle counting of inventory, submission of weekly inventory reports, and when required working with resell distributors to reduce or eliminate slow moving and obsolete inventory. The position will require periodic review of re-order points to insure inventory availability for product shipments as the company continues its growth, and the position will require periodic adjustment to standard costs to maintain accurate inventory valuation and minimize material variances. And the position will sit on the ECO review board to insure that changes are managed properly and stranded material is minimized. On occasion, the position will require back filling the shipping function when needed. In this role, the candidate will report to the Director of Outsourced Manufacturing.

Skills:

The candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills and be highly proficient with MSWord, Excel, shop floor control systems, and any of the ERP Systems noted above.

Required Experience:

The candidate must also have a minimum of 7 years experience as a production planner with responsibilities for inventory control. The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience with a Tier 1, 2, or 3 ERP systems such as Oracle, BAAN, or Great Plains.

Education Requirements:

The candidate will have a minimum of an Associate's in Business Administration and it will be considered beneficial if the candidate has an APIC CPIM certification in Production and Inventory Management. Military training with 5 years plus experience is an acceptable substitute for the associate's degree.

Travel:

No travel is anticipated for this position.

Other:

On occasion at month and quarter end, overtime work may be required.
