Sorrento Networks Seamlessly Adds Capacity to Alpheus Communications' WDM Infrastructure
Alpheus deploys Sorrento GigaMux platform and readies for 10G OET line card deployment next month to expand network bandwidth
DENVER April 20, 2009 Sorrento Networks announced today that Alpheus Communications, a leading operator of data centers with an extensive fiber optic network across metro Texas, has deployed the Sorrento GigaMux platform to significantly increase bandwidth capacity to meet its customers' growing demand for high-speed data services. In additional, Alpheus plans to deploy the Sorrento 10 Gigabit Optical Ethernet Transport (OET) line card next month which will further expand Alpheus' bandwidth capacity and position the company to support anticipated growth in data services.
Alpheus chose Sorrento's wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) platform and 10G OET card because of their combined ability to increase the bandwidth capabilities of its existing fiber, reduce operational costs and expand existing infrastructure to meet fluctuating bandwidth requirements Ð all without requiring costly infrastructure build-out.
"Sorrento's WDM platform allowed us to easily and seamlessly increase the capacity of our existing infrastructure, enabling us to meet our customers' ever-growing requirements for high-speed data services," said Francisco Maella, Chief Operating Officer, Alpheus Communications. "We are seeing growth for all of our Ethernet service offerings, thus requiring our core network to be upgraded to 10G. The Sorrento platform and OET line card dramatically increase our ability to implement our 10G backbone along with delivering native 10G services to our customers."
Sorrento's metro optical product offering is ideally suited for metro, metro core and regional WDM applications. Sorrento's GigaMux portfolio simplifies the establishment of new networks and enables customers to seamlessly add capacity to existing WDM infrastructure without interrupting traffic signals.
"Our customers continue to see growth for all of their high-speed service offerings — service speeds are increasing from the edge all the way to the core of the network," said Jim Nevelle, CEO of Sorrento Networks. "The Sorrento platform provides carriers with the ability to add capacity to a WDM infrastructure without requiring additional costly fiber deployments or replacement of an in-service WDM system. This offers carriers and enterprise customers tremendous value in terms of time and cost savings as well as the level of serviceability made possible with the GigaMux platform."
Sorrento Networks' GigaMux DWDM platforms enable Alpheus to deliver high-speed services that require a significantly reduced capital outlay and fewer management requirements than other optical networking products. A protocol-independent design allows the GigaMux platform to transport and extend the traffic of SONET/SDH, layer 2/3 Ethernet and SAN simultaneously and in their native format. This unmatched level of flexibility and control allows Alpheus to add or upgrade bandwidth incrementally based on traffic requirements.
