Sorrento’s GigaMux ® 1600 / 3200 optical transport system offers carriers unmatched flexibility and control, providing the full range of transport interfaces and capabilities. The GigaMux supports a variety of simultaneous single-wavelength and WDM architectures, including point-to-point, OADM linear, and OADM “hub and spoke” ring configurations; supporting distances up to 250 km with OCMe. The modular platform allows wavelength services to be added or upgraded incrementally, enabling carriers to satisfy customer needs quickly and easily on demand. A protocol-independent design allows the GigaMux to transport and extend the traffic of SONET/SDH, layer 2/3 Ethernet, and storage area networks (SAN).

Designed for use at either the carrier's POP or a CPE location, the GigaMux 1608 is the densest, compact and most cost-effective optical access platform in the industry today. An integral element of the Sorrento GigaMux, the GM 1608 supports up to four wavelengths in only 2 RU of chassis height. Redundant power supplies, cooling systems, and management modules provide the highest level of system reliability while offering the smallest physical footprint in its class.

By utilizing 3R (reshaping, regeneration and retiming) technology, the GigaMux ensures that optical signals from the customer’s equipment are fully replicated at the POP, essentially creating a virtual local connection – as if the customer’s equipment was co-located at the service provider’s POP. The GigaMux complies with NEBS standards, allowing for co-location in a carrier environment.
