10G / 16G two-channel Transponder card with encryption and FEC options – SFP+ based

The ODC2 is a two-channel, multi-rate Transponder card, supporting Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and SONET / SDH. It serves access to DWDM networks, extending the bounds of fiber connections with SFP+ pluggable optics modules for up to 80 DWDM channels per fiber optic pair; client-side optics include multimode (850nm), singlemode (1310nm), CWDM and DWDM.

Industry-leading fiber line-side AES-256 encryption is supported by master key sessions for each direction which are autonomously and securely negotiated using a Diffie-Hellman key exchange. The encryption circuit scrambles the data before transmission out the link port and decrypts it after receipt at the receiving end.

The master session key seeds the pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) based on NIST SP800-90A which is iterated identically at each end of the link, to provide a sequence of 256-bit AES link keys.

The lifetime of a link key is operator-selectable from 10 minutes through to 1 day limiting the amount of data encrypted under a single key. Key changes are performed at multi-frame boundaries, making them seamless to the optical client and having no effect on dataflow. To further improve the level of security, Diffie-Hellman key exchanges are scrambled to prevent tampering from unknown sources.

Forward Error Correction (FEC) and 3R (reshaping, regeneration, retiming) features also make the ODC2 module a cost–and-space-effective choice for transport-layer regeneration applications.

As an integral part of the GigaMux 3200 system, the ODC2 is managed via GigaView, an element management system. Managed service providers and customers can manage remote network elements without an extensive IP infrastructure, and provision new services, monitor, troubleshoot and isolate problems quickly and effectively. The Sorrento Networks Management System also supports remote download of software reducing maintenance costs and simplifying network upgrades. CLI, SNMP and GigaView 3200 management interfaces are also available.

With the release of GigaMux 3200 Release 6.1, support for tunable SPF+ pluggable optical transceivers for both client-side and line-side ports were added to the ODC2, as of May 2016, which provides operators simplified spares management and ordering with a cost reduction of up to 80:1. The 6.1 update also enables the card to be configured in REGEN mode supporting up to two REGEN instances per ODC2 card installed.
